Ben knows Lizzy is off limits. Completely and utterly. She's his best friend's little sister now, and no matter how hot the chemistry is between them, no matter how sweet and sexy she is, he's not going to go there. But when Ben is forced to keep the one girl he's always had a weakness for out of trouble in Sin City, he quickly learns that what happens in Vegas, doesn't always stay there. Now he and Lizzie are connected in the deepest way possible... but will it lead to a connection of the heart?
“I'd never needed to know that my sister was a screamer. Never. That Mal was a screamer too just kind of confused me.”No. No no no no noooo. ๐ญ
I didn't devour Deep like I did the other books in this series. Maybe I don't like bass players? Sadly, I doubt that's the problem. Ben just annoyed the hell out of me. He was so mellow about everything. Dude finds out he's about to have a baby with Liz and he basically does the equivalent of a shoulder shrug. That nonchalant attitude is pretty much how he behaves the rest of the book, too.
I didn't really like how their relationship happened either. All of the secrets and sneaking around, ugh. They were two consenting adults and shouldn't have had to hide their feelings for each other. Ben didn't want to upset his friends, and Liz... she just wanted to make Ben happy. She jokes about stalking him, which he laughs off later, but no...she totally did. It seemed like a tainted romance even in the beginning.
I don't know why Liz put up with Ben's nonsense. She had her sister and Mal, two people who would do anything for her, and she pined after Ben the entire book. Ben can't decide what he wants, and his apology at the end was rubbish. Liz most definitely deserved better. Oh, and Ben's sister? He should have never, ever let her speak to Liz like that. He didn't even pretend to intervene.
Halfway through the book I hoped Lizzy would end up with a guy from a different band. His name currently eludes me... Vaughn? I can't remember. He wasn't mentioned very often, but he was obviously attracted to her even though she was pregnant. She only ever smiled around him, and their bathroom scene was more romantic than anything Ben ever did for her.
I still enjoyed the overall story because of all the other familiar characters. It was nice to learn what was going on in their lives, but I was disappointed with Ben and Lizzy. I just didn't like either one of them. I wanted more chivalry from Ben, and I wish Liz had been less of a doormat.
I've read her young adult book but not this series as yet, this is one I'll be skipping though. He sounds like as though he's missing a backbone to be honest. Laid back character are great, no stress to unwind but these fictional men need to start taking responsibility and who on earth refers to their sister as a screamer? A man who needs a swift kick in the ass. Still really want to read the series but a pass on this one. Awesome review L, rwally enjoyed it <3
ReplyDeleteBen valued his independence above all else. He was exactly where he wanted to be in life, and having a family would complicate that. He didn't know how to deal with what was going on, so he just chose to keep himself at a distance. It sucks for Liz, because she's pregnant and wants him close. I hated how she felt, and I wish she had stopped giving him so many chances.
DeleteJust to reiterate from our earlier conversation, and so everyone else knows--Ben wasn't the person commenting on their sister being a screamer! Liz was making the comment about Mal and her sister while sharing a hotel room with them. Thin walls and all that, lol. I will agree that Ben still needs a swift kick in the ass, but for many other reasons.
I would still highly recommend the first three books in this series!
I only really liked Play from this series so I didn't continue. I can't remember - did you like Play?

I loved Play! Mal is hilarious. He thinks so highly of himself! ๐
Delete"Halfway through the book I hoped Lizzy would end up with a guy from a different band" Oh dang haha I've felt that way before
ReplyDeleteHaha, right? I think Liz would have been happier with someone else.
DeleteLOl, maybe cos he was a bass player ;) Oh that cracked me up, even though it was not the case
ReplyDeleteHaha! I'm pretty sure the bass had nothing to do with my feelings, but you never know... ๐คท๐
DeleteYour musings about this book made me giggle. Fantastic review. I have been skipping around in the series (I get them digitally from the library), and still have to read this one, but I am a little disappointed that Ben's story did not match the level of the rest of the series. --sigh--
ReplyDeleteThanks! Which of them have you read so far? I think Play was my favorite, but I really enjoyed Jimmy's story in Lead, too.
DeleteSorry you didn't quite connect with the characters and fully want the romance to take place, it happens as sad as that is. Hope your next romance read is a better one!
ReplyDeleteThat's the beauty of books--there's always another one to read! If you don't like something, move on to the next one. I enjoyed the series as a whole, just not Ben and Lizzy's individual story. ๐ข
DeleteRead so many great reviews for this series. I do not know why have yet to try it. Great review.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved the first three! If you decide to read them, let me know what you think!
