I know, I know... I said I wasn't going to read Moon Knight any more because of how dark it is, but
They weren't as graphic as the two before it, but they were intense. Max Bemis is the devil. I hate, hate, hate cliffhangers and these were ridiculous. You cannot casually make that your last page of a comic and then disappear for a month.
...and now I read Moon Knight. I'll admit the Egyptian mythology drew me in from the start, and Marc Spector (Moon Knight) is an interesting (very, very complicated) character. He has multiple personality disorder, which means he alone is like four separate people, and they all serve a purpose in his mind. It's twisted and weird, but now I'm hooked. I need to know what the hell is happening at the end of the last issue! 😱
I never read Moon Knight but I remember something about him having multiple personalities. sounds like a pretty edgy comic, maybe I should give it a shot.

DeleteIt's definitely dark, but I think it might be something you like. I'm basing this off the books you read and review, so we'll see. If you do try it, please let me know what you think! I'd love to hear your thoughts.

It probably is! I've read of moon Knight in other (older) Marvel books, but not his own series, and nothing recent. Looks like a cool new take?
DeleteIt's been interesting so far. MAJOR THINGS HAPPENING THAT WERE NOT EXPEXTED, and that also make me incredibly angry. Like, visibly shaking with anger.
DeleteI was gonna say, I did not see this before I tweeted you, how coincidental, but then I saw your comment to Greg lol. You do have me wanting to read this though! It's just, it seems like there are so many out already? And that always kind of scares me off because it gets expensive and also kind of intimidating. I'll have to check Hoopla.
ReplyDelete#188 is it's Legacy issue, which is essentially a new starting place with a new arc. I haven't read any other Moon Knight except for the four shown in this post, and I don't feel lost at all. They do that so new readers can pick up an ongoing series without needing to read all the others before it.

DeleteI think you should! For this comic they release one issue each month, so you have to wait awhile for the next one, but it's nothing like waiting years for a book!

DeleteJust to jump in, but I agree. In my experience Marvel wants new readers badly, and so this new Legacy numbering means they will probably explain anything you need to know up front and then away they go, and you won't be too lost. In theory anyway. :) And MK's the kind of character where the backstory/ history isn't bad, compared to SOME Marvel characters where it's just crazy. He kinda does his own thing. :)

DeleteI'm not a comic book fan but my son is starting to get into them, so we spend quite some time at the comic book store every other weekend trying to find some that are age appropriate!

DeleteI know you said you don't read comics in the following comment, but if you were looking to start... try old book stores. They usually have a selection of comics at an extremely discounted price. It might help you decide if it's something you'd be into or not.

Ugh, I hate waiting for books to be released, especially when I'm REALLY invested in a series. A year is SO LONG.

I’m still laughing over “spouse pressure.” Awesome that your husband is a reader, too. Does he read novels or is his focus mainly on comics? I’ve tried and tried to get into comics but finally had to admit that they just aren’t my thing. *pout*

Hahaha! Yes! He likes to push his favorite comics, but I do the same. He reads novels, too. It's just not something he's able to do as often. Comics are shorter and easier to get through.
DeleteMy husband also likes to savor his books, and I feel like it takes him a month to read something, lol. Our book preferences are in NO WAY THE SAME. We share similar interests in comics, but not books. I like romance and fantasy, while he reads science and philosophy. We've had plenty of arguments, er... discussions, over what makes a book worth reading. 🤦♀️
I'm sorry you haven't been able to get into comics! I know some people prefer to wait for the graphic novels to come out. Which comics have you tried?
DeleteNow that I think about it, maybe I haven't actually read any comics. Is Saga a comic or a graphic novel? I read the first two bind-up volumes of that and then gave up. I read Chopsticks (graphic novel) and didn't care for it. Maybe I haven't actually read any comics. Hmmm...
DeleteI believe Saga is a GN, but I'm not familiar with it. A comic and a graphic novel are similar, but not always the same. A graphic novel is a collection, while a comic is something released weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. An entire story arc can be compiled into a GN, or even a complete volume... it just depends.
