Final Thoughts [4]
Rogue & Gambit (#1-5) by Kelly Thompson

Rogue & Gambit (#1-5) by Kelly Thompson, Pere Pรฉrez (Illustrator), Kris Anka (Illustrator)
Synopsis (via Goodreads): Everybody's favorite X-couple is reunited! And boy, are they not happy about that… Kitty Pryde must send Rogue and Gambit on an undercover mission to find a group of kidnapped mutants. What they discover on this mission will shock them. But will it also bring them closer together…? It's a high-stakes adventure caper that only the two hottest X-Men can deliver!

I loved Kelly Thompson's take on Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), so I was thrilled when I saw she would also be writing Rogue & Gambit! I don't think these two get enough attention, and Thompson manages to cram a lot of their past and present into 5 issues. I actually learned a lot of new things about these two. They have a complicated history, but their love is fierce even when they're not together (or Rogue is smooching with Deadpool--ugh).

I would say this comic is romance with a twist! Rogue and Gambit go on a couple's retreat, but it's also their mission. Something hanky has been going on, so they're sent to figure out what it is. They were the best candidates, because their relationship was actually suffering. They needed outside assistance, but they had no idea what would happen once they arrived and started snooping around.

If you're looking for something short and engaging--this is it! These two are so much fun to read about, and you cannot help but fall in love with them, too. Their secret mission was unexpected, and I would love to know more about the baddie (don't want to be spoilery!) and their past. These are also some of my favorite illustrations, both inside and out. I honestly don't think I could pick a favorite cover... maybe #3... but just because we get to see a lot of the previous versions of Rogue and Gambit.

    1. Yay! I hope your library has them! My library doesn't do comics yet, so I'm not really sure how it works. :)

There's a lot of romance happening WHILE fighting! Rogue and Gambit just cannot help how much they love each other. The things they say... SO SWEET. I also adore his Cajun accent, and the fact that she affectionately calls him "Cajun."

    1. I think you've said that before! I always wonder if you're going to give their comic a shot, lol. Kelly Thompson is AMAZING, and she writes them both so well. I hope you try it and love it as much as I do.

    1. He's adorable! I didn't really care for him in the one X-Men movie... X-Men Origins: Wolverine, I think. He didn't feel authentic to me, and came across as a jerk. Maybe I don't know enough about Gambit, but I've loved him in every comic I've read.

  4. Ooh rogue. Always liked her. Nice to see her and Remy still dating or whatever- I remember when Rogue had her little dalliance with Magneto (granted that was a long time ago, but it was an... interesting... relationship. Isn't he way too old for her? I always wondered that since he's older in the comics). Oh well, comics lol.

Anyway yeah I like cover #3 also.

    1. I've always liked Rogue, too. Remy isn't someone I've read a lot about, but I've enjoyed the comics he's made an appearance in (Rogue & Gambit, Astonishing X-Men). I do not remember Rogues relationship with Magneto?? It would be like her dating the Professor, because he and Erik/Eric are the same age, I think (WEIRD).

    2. I had to look cause I couldn't remember where it happened, I guess it was in the Savage Land issues 273-274. Not really a relationship but an attraction? I guess the collected edition is out of print or super expensive https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11385401-x-men-by-chris-claremont-jim-lee-omnibus-vol-2

And I think they had a relationship during the Age of Apocalypse storyline, but I've never read it. Anyway... yeah weird. :)

  7. Aw, I loved Rogue and Gambit in the animated TV series! I've never gotten into reading comics (beyond a few graphic novels) though. There are just so many universes...and storylines...and alternate storylines...it's very intimidating! I'll admit though, it's tempting to try and just read these 5 on their own :)

    1. I haven't seen the animated series! What is it called? What graphic novels have you read? You're right! The Marvel Universe is extremely complex, so it's hard to keep up with who is where, and then there are all the crossovers. There are also people that can crossover on their own, or slip through dimensions and realities... Haha! This is a fantastic mini series if you're looking for something small to start with. :)
