Shanghai Red looks intense! Here is the synopsis: Red is one of hundreds shanghaied out of Portland in the late 1800s. Drugged, kidnapped, and sold to a ship's captain, she wakes up on a boat headed out to sea for years, unable to escape or even reveal who she truly is. Now she's coming back in a boat covered in blood to find her family and track down the men responsible for stealing her life out from under her.
I know it's wishful thinking, but I hope it's not going to be as bloody and violent as it sounds. A little bit of fighting and gore doesn't bother me, but sometimes comics take it too far.

Question: What is the actual title for this comic?
- The Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows
- Amazing Spider-Man Review Your Vows
I'm asking this question because the cover says one thing, and the world says another. Goodreads, Comic List, and even my LCS have it listed without the "The" at the beginning. However, isn't that what the comic is called? I'm going to do a little research today/this week and see what I can find out! It's been bugging me for awhile now.
I am loving the Runaways cover! I'm a little behind on the series, but I'm curious how Alice in Wonderland ties into their current story... I'm not caught up because I'm still missing one of the earlier issues, and I like to read them in order. Skipping ahead feels like I'm cheating on the comic, lol.
That's all for me this week! What comics are you reading?
I've never gotten into comics but I LOVE the superhero movies so that's sort of surprising. I'm a s sucker for Spider-man and Ironman!
ReplyDeleteThe movies have been SO GOOD. Spider-Man Homecoming has been my favorite of all the Spider-Man movies so far. I think Tom Holland does a wonderful job portraying Peter Parker. The others seemed too old for the role, or just not a good fit. Also, the "MJ" they have in Homecoming was perfect.
DeleteIron Man was the original movie that started all of this! It's crazy how much they've accomplished over the last 10 years. We love the Guardians of the Galaxy movies! My kid is a big Rocket/Groot fan. I like how everyone is coming together in the Infinity War movie (still haven't seen it yet), because that is a lot of superheroes in one place.
I used to read comics long ago. I think I have a few of the Zena comics still hidden somewhere in my house. I might even have the first issue of that comic. =)
ReplyDeleteOhh, Zena! That's a name I haven't heard in awhile! That's how we got started, too. I found some of my husband's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics that he's had since he was a kid. My son quickly fell in love with them, so we decided to look into what other comics we could get right now, and we're hooked. It's almost like an addition, haha. There's just so many great comics out right now, and we try to limit ourselves to a few each.
DeleteI’ve never read comics but very cool cover on The Runaways issue. I like the artwork on that one.
ReplyDeleteSame! I've always enjoyed Alice in Wonderland stories, so I'm curious how it's going to tie into the Runaways comic!
DeleteI've been wanting to read The Runaways for awhile, but haven't gotten around to it. Maybe it's time to pick it up! I hope you enjoy all of these!
ReplyDeleteIt's only on its 10th issue, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding the first few issues. Rainbow Rowell does a great job writing it! If you don't want to start at the beginning, you can always check to see when they're starting a new arc. If you start at the beginning of an arc, you won't be as lost when you pick it up! <3
Deleteoh the covers are all so great!!!
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite this week is the Runaways cover, but Spider-Man Renew Your Vows is pretty awesome, too.
DeleteShanghai Red looks promising! Hopefully it's not too violent- is it an indie comic? Sometimes the indies go a little crazy. The Ant-Man/ Wasp covers are cracking me up. I love it when they use humor. And I love the Champions cover too- what a fun team.
ReplyDeleteIt's being published through Image Comics! Infinity Countdown Champions is only going to be two issues, so I'm curious how much they're going to cram into each one.
DeleteWow, these have such great cover! Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteIt's always a good week when The Amazing Spider-Man Renew You Vows comes out! I know that we have to wait years between books in a series, but waiting three weeks between comics feels like a lifetime, too.
DeleteThe art on these are just stunning. *.*
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of creative people out there! It's hard just to choose one cover sometimes. Comics usually have a main cover and then other variants you can choose from.
DeleteI just saw the trailer for antman and wasp, looked fun :D Th comic looks nice too
ReplyDeleteI think the movie is going to be great! The cast is amazing.
DeleteI don’t read comics, but I love the look and synopsis of Shanghai Red. The cover looks scary. I hope you love all these!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
It's supposed to be about pirates! I love stories about pirates, but I also know they can be violent. I just hope they don't take things too far...
DeleteI haven't read many comics, but I think its more a 'when' than an 'if'. Red does sound like it can get squeamish, but oddly with human trafficking stuff, I don't get to worked up over the revenge getting brutal. Though, that said, comics are visual and I'm not sure how much I'd want to see, either. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're probably right! I'm more worried about the violence and cruelty she experiences after being kidnapped and captured. Things like that really upset me and make me want to be violent myself. If she's getting revenge for what others have done to her--totally fine with that. In my mind, the deserve it. You do make another good point about it being a comic, so it definitely depends on how the illustrators choose to portray the story.
DeleteReading a story and making my own images is one thing, having it vividly printed with pictures is another.
DeleteLove that Runaways cover!! I <3 Alice in Wonderland :D
ReplyDeleteHard same! I'm not sure if there is going to be an actual connection to Alice in Wonderland, because could just be a cover idea... but I'm hoping there is!
DeleteI'm loving that Runaways cover as well. I'm always drawn to Alice in Wonderland retellings/inspired by. Hope you enjoy all these!
ReplyDeleteI feel like there were a lot of Alice in Wonderland retellings a few years ago, but I haven't seen any lately. Have you? Did I miss one somewhere? I'm always so fascinated with the world, because Wonderland is able to be so many different things at once.
DeleteHeartless by Marissa Meyer was my most recent read. It wasn't about Alice per se, but we get an origin story for the Queen of Hearts.
DeleteAmazing haul of comics Linds but what's the deal with Spiderman? You might need to Google the ISPN and check what the registered title is. I've noticed that Goodreads isn't always accurate when it comes to graphic novels or translated books as well. So many incredible reads! ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteI think it's just the way things are... from what I can tell... it's actually really confusing when you look into it. A lot of Spider-Man comics are The Amazing Spider-Man followed by something else, and yet they all are listed without the "the" at the front. It's like it's there as a decoration, lol. It's not just Goodreads that does that, by my local comic shop and some of the websites I use.
