DNF&Y is used to explain why I gave up on certain books, and what about them just didn't work for me. What I disliked about a book might be something you love, so it helps to share your thoughts even when they're negative! DNFs for October = 0
Yay for zero! Last month I DNFd seven books, so it was nice not having any for October. I didn't love everything I read (most of my October books were three-star reads), but they were at least good enough to finish. For the most part, it was a month of meh reads. However, there were a few books that I really enjoyed!
Star Wars: Are You Scared, Darth Vader? by Adam Rex ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆
Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆
Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆
Winter by Marissa Meyer ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆
The Last Wish of Sasha Cade by Cheyanne Young ⋆⋆⋆⋆
The Wild Robot by Peter Brown ⋆⋆⋆⋆
What have you been reading this month? Anything I should add to my TBR? *My Weekly Pull will post tomorrow since DNF&Y fell on a Wednesday this month!

*high fives you* Yay for the zero DNF months!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's a happy feeling.
DeleteYay for no DNFs this month. I finally read Winter over the summer and loved it too.

Winter was such a great conclusion for the series! I have the audio for Fairest that I plan on starting soon. Have you read it?
DeleteZero is great! Less DNF, and better books!
ReplyDeleteMost of them were okay! Like I said, it was a "meh" month for me. The majority of the books I read in October were three-star reads with a few exceptions. They were just good enough to finish!
DeleteI actually DNF'd one book last month. Just wasn't my thing to read. :/ But yay, you!
ReplyDeleteWhich book didn't work for you? Why? I'm curious!
DeleteYay for no DNF this month :D
ReplyDeleteHappy you didn't have to DNF anything this month! I love the title of these posts, by the way.

Thanks! It popped into my head one day, so I just went with it. :)
DeleteI am clapping for you and your zero DNFs. I think I DNFed two audiobooks, but it was simply because they weren't good for listening. I think I will enjoy them, when I sit down and read them.
ReplyDeleteI've been listening to the audiobook for Strange the Dreamer, but I'm not enjoying it. I've been told it's better if you read it instead, so I'm thinking about switching formats. Sometimes the audio doesn't work!
DeleteHooray for a great reading month!

DeleteI would suggest Olivia Twist, I read it this month & loved it!!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds vaguely familiar! Is it YA or MG?
DeleteYA! It's a newer book so there's been a bit of hype lately- but I tried to stay away from anyone talking about it because with hype comes expectations...sadly.
DeleteWhen a book gets a lot of hype, I try to wait until the buzz dies down. Like you said, it comes with expectations, and I want to go into it with a clear head. I think a book should stand on its own merit, and I want to give it a fair chance. I will definitely keep this one in mind!
DeleteYay, impressive! My month was very similar- a lot of meh reads (though a couple really happy surprises at least!) but nothing SO awful, so I guess... is that good? I don't know, it is harder to write meh reviews so maybe not- maybe some scathing ones would be easier but alas! Hope November treats you well!
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to right meh reviews! I feel like there's nothing to say, because I didn't love or hate the book. It's so much easier to rave or rant, haha.
DeleteHooray for a good reading month!
ReplyDeleteCheers! <3
DeleteYay for no DNF's. :)
ReplyDeleteAlways a good thing! <3
DeleteWahoo!! Congrats on no DNF's!! :)
ReplyDeleteIt feels like such an accomplishment, but I'm just happy that the books were mostly good. :)
DeleteOh yeay! You read Magic Bites! IMO it's the weakest of the Kate Daniels series so to have rated it a 5 star? *squees* It's silly but I'm so happy you liked it! I bang on about it so much, lol.
ReplyDeleteThe Lunar Chronicles are on my TBR. I haven't read Marissa Mayer before but the whole fairytale re-imaginings + those gorgeous covers and I'm in! But I want them on paperback so I can stare at the covers. They're on my Christmas list. :)
You thought Magic Bites was the weakest of the series?! I guess that means I'm going to love all of the others! I really enjoy the Ilona Andrews duo and their world-building. I'm anxious to discover Kate's secret, and why she has to burn any traces of her blood. What is so special about her history? I need to know! I'm currently on hold for the second book, and I plan on starting it as soon as it pops onto my phone. I have a feeling it's a series I'm going to bang on about, too. ;)
DeleteOh! Start with Heartless! It's like an Origin story for the Queen of Hearts. It's the firs Marissa Meyer book I read, and what made me fall in love with her writing. I had a copy of Cinder for years that I never read (retellings aren't always my thing), and I am so happy Heartless pushed me to read her other books. Have you read Renegades? Not a retelling, but awesome world-building. I hope someone buys them for you for Christmas! <3
Yay for no DNFs or truly horrible ones. Middle of the road books I'm okay with sometimes :) Hope November has a bit better reading for ya!
ReplyDeleteI'm okay with meh books, but they're always so hard to review. What do you say when you don't love or hate something? It was good enough to finish, but not something I want to read again.
DeleteI don't DNF review books and that seems to be all I read anymore. Ha ha. Maybe I coukd do a post about books I wanted to DNF, and link up. I just finished The Geography of Lost Things, and I loved it! ๐
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you DNF books? I'm just curious! I used to be like that -- felt compelled to finish everything I started. However, I started to hate reading a little bit. I shouldn't have to force myself to pick a book up. I want to be insanely excited to get back to a story! I've really enjoyed books now that I stop reading the ones that aren't working for me. It's like a weight lifted from my shoulders!
DeleteI've heard really great things about that one! It's on my list. <3
