My Weekly Pull [45] & Can't Wait Wednesday [15]

My Weekly Pull is something I do every Wednesday to show which comics I had pulled for me that week! If you're into comics, or you're looking to start, please join me! If you decide to do your own post, leave a link in the comments. I would love to stop by and check it out!

Runaways #15 by Rainbow Rowell, Kris Anka
X-Men Red #10 by Tom Taylor, Paolo Villanelli, Jenny Frison

Jacob's comics for the week!
Kick-Ass #9 by Steve Niles, Marcelo Frusin, Christian Ward
Deadpool #6 by Skottie Young, Scott Hepburn, Nic Klein
Infinity Wars #5 (of 6) by Gerry Duggan, Mike Deodato, Javi Garron
Marvel Knights 20th #1 (of 6) by Donny Cates, Travel Foreman, Kaare Andrews

Only two comics for me this week! I was completely caught up on my comics... until I wasn't. Hah! I'm still trying to work my way through some of the older Venom issues, but I'm only able to read two or three between my ongoing comics. I'm really enjoying everything I have right now, so I'm sure I'll find the time eventually.

Runaways and X-Men Red are two that I look forward to every month. Rainbow Rowell really has a knack for the Runaways, and I love how relatable the characters are. They're children that went against their evil parents, and now they're trying to survive in the world. It's rarely easy, but at least they have each other (and a dinosaur).

X-Men Red is not only relatable, but it's relevant. We live in a divided world, and Taylor really shows those divisive lines within his comic. The scenarios aren't exactly the same, but it's not hard to see the similarities. Also, Gabby! She's my favorite, and the rest of the team is pretty badass, too.

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, that highlights upcoming releases that we're anticipating and excited to read. It's a spinoff of the feature Waiting on Wednesday that was hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

Impossible Music by Sean Williams
Expected publication July 2nd 2019
Synopsis (via Goodreads): In an emotionally compelling tale crackling with originality, when a teen musician goes deaf, his quest to create an entirely new form of music brings him to a deeper understanding of his relationship to the hearing world, of himself, and of the girl he meets along the way.

Music is Simon’s life—which is why he is devastated when a stroke destroys his hearing. He resists attempts to help him adjust to his new state, refusing to be counseled, refusing to learn sign-language, refusing to have anything to do with Deaf culture. Refusing, that is, until he meets G, a tough-as-nails girl dealing with her own newly-experienced deafness.

In an emotionally engaging tale crackling with originality, Simon's quest to create an entirely new form of music forces him into a deeper understanding of his relationship to the hearing world, of himself, and of the girl he meets along the way.

I love everything about this synopsis! It sounds like Impossible Music is going to break my heart a few times before trying to repair it with duct tape. July is still a few months away, but I think this book will definitely be worth the wait!

What are you reading right now? Do you like it?

  1. So I heard (or saw over on Newsarama) that X-Men Red may be ending? apparently they're relaunching Uncanny X-Men next year? I don't know that for sure, so take with a grain of salt, but seems like I saw something like that. Bummer b/c it sounds like REd has been pretty good!

    1. Jacob told me about Uncanny X-Men! I didn't know it was replacing X-Men Red, but it makes sense since most of the characters are the same. I think he said something about Kelly Thompson writing it (All-New Hawkeye, West coast Avengers, Rogue & Gambit), so that means I'll automatically buy it -- love her! However, I'll be sad to lose another Tom Taylor comic (his All-New Wolverine is one of my favorites).

X-Men Red has felt like it was coming to the end of an arc... maybe they're just going to end it there and not start another one. The villain's plans have been foiled, but I'm not sure if it's going to stick. This one is persistent!

  3. Impossible Music sounds good, but I don't think it's one I'll add to my TBR right now...so many others Lol.

I misplaced some of my manga for last weeks Weekly Pull so I only got one of them read, but this week I got some more anime!

    1. I'm always adding new books to my TBR! I don't want to forget they exist, if there's a chance I might read them one day. Sometimes I'll randomly choose a book that's been on my TBR for years, and I'll feel like I've really accomplished something, haha.

You should leave a link in the comments! Not too many people read comics or manga, so it's not worth creating a link-up every time. However, I would love to know if you're doing your own MWP so I can check it out! :)

    3. Awesome! If you think it's something you'll want to do consistently, I'll start adding the link up every week. I want to make sure others can see it, too. Give me a few minutes and I'll add one to this post for you.

    4. I'd love to do it each week! The only times I won't is if (like last week) the last day of October was a Wednesday, and I do my monthly wrap-ups on the last day of the months.

    5. I added it to this post, and I'll try to remember to start adding it every week! Last week I postponed My Weekly Pull, too. I do my DNF&Y post on the last day of the month, so the two overlapped. Since DNF&Y only happens once I month, I bumped My Weekly Pull back a day.

      Happy to have you! <3

  8. Impossible Musics sounds so emotional - becoming deaf when your life is all about music? So tough!

    1. I'm really interested in seeing how he handles the loss of his hearing, and if he's able to come up with an alternate solution. There are so many possibilities!

  9. Wow, Impossible Music sounds so powerful. A musician going deaf is such a cruel thing but it sounds like he’s determined to create something new from the experience. Amazing!

    1. I'm hoping there is a before and after period, because I want to know what his life with music was life before he loses his hearing. I want to see how he chooses to cope with that loss, and what methods he'll use to continue experiencing music. I'm sure it will be a fascinating read! :)

  10. I just started seeing Impossible Music around but didn't know what it was about.

What is that first comic picture of? Very cool looking!

    1. Runaways! Rainbow Rowell is currently writing it, and it's been pretty great so far. That's Victor on the cover... he's not completely human, so they usually have his head attached to different things. Something happened to the body he was using, and he hasn't had one in awhile. When one was offered to him, it had a lot of tech and guns, which caused him to freak out. I think he was riding around on one of those self-cleaning vacuums in the last issue I read. A Rumba? Is that what they're called?

Maybe he's finally going to have a body again!
