News:
I have been in a really weird mood this week! I haven't felt like reading, watching TV, blogging, or getting out of bed. However, I have to get out of bed because children require attention. I think the cooler weather has invigorated them, but it just makes me want to curl up on the couch and take a nap.
I'm really enjoying the cooler weather, despite wanting to snuggle and sleep all day. We've always been outdoorsy, but this weather is perfect for riding bicycles and playing on the playground. The equipment doesn't get too hot, and the cooler air is always refreshing.
The #HoHoHoRAT started this week! It's the second day and I'm already behind. There's just not enough time in a day! Hopefully I'll be able to read at least five books before the end of the readathon.

What I'm Currently Reading:
The Greatest Love Story Ever Told is the first non-fiction book I've read in awhile. I'm actually listening to the audiobook (phenomenal), which is narrated by Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman. These two are hilarious on their own (Will & Grace / Parks and Recreation), but I love when they're together. It's like they feed off one another's energy, and the conversations escalate until someone makes an inappropriate comment or joke.
Snowed In is the first book I'm reading for the #HoHoHoRAT! I haven't had a lot of time to read since the readathon started, so I'm just barely into this one. It's been okay so far. It feels like it was written for a much younger audience, but it's listed as a YA book. Also, the characters are shallow and a little repetitive. I'm going to stick with it, because I'm curious about Josh Wynter, so we'll see how it goes.
What I Plan on Reading Next:
The Bear and the Nightingale (Winternight Trilogy, #1) by Katherine Arden
Wilder by Andrew Simonet
Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow (Nevermoor, #2) by Jessica Townsend
I am really looking forward to reading Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow! My son and I really enjoyed the first book, and we've been anxiously awaiting the sequel. The Bear and the Nightingale is going to be my next #HoHoHoRAT read, and I've heard wonderful things about it!
What I'm Watching:
I started watching Riverdale and couldn't stop! I had forgotten the series was loosely based on a comic, though one I'm not very familiar with. I've heard of the Archie comics and I've seen them around, but I've never actually read one. I've had a few issues with the series as a whole, but it's also ridiculously addicting. I'm a little confused by the somewhat paranormal turn the show has taken during S3, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays out.
If you've watched Riverdale, have you noticed that Archie's hair isn't always the same shade of red? It seems to change every few episodes. I'm also irritated with the parents on this show! Does anyone care about their child's safety? I feel like the parents are either nonexistent or they're too involved.
I'm already jonesing for the next episode, especially after Betty discovered Jughead playing G&G.

Good luck with the readathon! Snowed In looks fun, especially since we have snow on the ground here! Only a little though... and I like the cooler weather too, although we dipped into the 20's so that might be... too cool!
ReplyDeleteRiverdale is so awesome. Ridiculous but awesome. And I love it when they go paranormal, I thought they were going to in S1 but they didn't really, and now they're flirting w/ it again. I loved the parents flashback episode- and they did Dream warriors. That's like my favorite thing of the week. :)
I thought Snowed In would be fun, which is why I started with it, but the overall story is lacking. There's no oomph. I don't feel anything for the characters except mild annoyance. It's a bummer, but hopefully my next wintery read will be better!
Delete20s? What's that? Hah! The only time I've been in weather that cold, was when my family took a trop to Colorado one year. I just love wearing books and jackets! And really old and worn hoodies -- so comfy!
Riverdale is ridiculous, but in an addictive way. There are a lot of twists and surprises, and I really loved the Carrie musical episode! There's a lot more death than I was expecting. If we lived somewhere where people and kids kept dying, we'd move. There would be zero hesitation on my part. Also, the kids in Riverdale are crazy rebellious and the parents have lost all hope of control.
I have also been feeling super sleepy and haven't been wanting to get out of bed lately. But life makes you anyway ๐
ReplyDeleteI really wish we had a fireplace to sit next to, but then I would likely never leave the house again! Maybe to get more firewood and provisions, but that's it. ;)
DeleteI LOVE The Bear and the Nightingale! Enjoy!! And oh my gosh! I just started season two of Riverdale! I'm really enjoying it!
ReplyDeleteI'm starting the audio for it! I have about an hour or so left on the one I've been listening to, so it should be sometime today. Happy to hear you loved it! That makes me even more excited to read it.
DeleteI watched the first two seasons of Riverdale on Netflix, but had to use the CWs website for the current episodes. If you hurry, they're all still available!
I'm very interested in The Bear and the Nightingale, but, for now, I'm focusing on Nonfiction November.
ReplyDeleteNonfiction November? That's great! I'm not a huge fan of nonfiction books -- give me epic and otherworldly -- so it wouldn't be a good challenge for me. I hope you're able to get through all the books you want! <3
DeleteHope you are enjoying HoHoHo, I'm loving my Christmas books. And I've The Bear and the Nightingale on my TBR but doubt I'll get to it this year!
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying the #HoHoHoRAT! It's my first year participating, and it's been a blast so far. I haven't had a chance to read as much as I would like, but I'm trying! I just finished my first book for the readathon, so that review will be up tomorrow. :)
DeleteI'm really excited to start The Bear and the Nightingale!
Phoenix Unbound was GREAT! A very different read for me (I'm not usually a fantasy fan) but I really liked it!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I've enjoyed what I've read so far! It's a tad darker than what I'm used to, but that cold be because everything is described and not just implied.
DeleteI get that way during the summer. I love the Winter and it really doesn't get all that cold here anyway.
ReplyDeleteI don't feel lazy during the summer, just hot and uncomfortable! I dislike being outdoors when the temperatures get above 80. Unless it's to go swimming! It doesn't get terribly cold in Texas either, but we've been enjoying the 50s. I just wish we had a fireplace!
DeleteThat's cool that you and your son read together, and that book looks great too.
ReplyDeleteI love reading with my kids! The girls are still too young for MG stories, but they love being read to. They have a ton of board books in their room, but we keep the others in our son's room. They still like to rip and tear!
DeleteI highly recommend that series! I thought it was going to have an Edgar Allen Poe vibe, but I was mistaken. It's a creative world with wonderful characters! There's a huge mystery that's unveiled at the end, and I'm curious to see how it's going to play into the second book.
I can't wait to read Phoenix Unbound but I've heard it's a bit of a rough ride!
ReplyDeleteRiverdale was a recent addiction of mine. I finished S2 just in time for the start of S3 but only watched the first episode before deciding to wait until at least the mid-season point as I don't think it'd work for me as a week on week show... It's definitely a binge-watcher. Btw, I agree 100% with Archie's hair. I thought my TV was playing up until I realised it was the dye-job! I absolutely love Jughead and Betty. Their relationship has my shipper heart singing and is one of the reasons I couldn't stop watching.
Good luck with the HoHoHoRAT! The cover for The Bear and the Nightingale is so beautiful.
Phoenix Unbound is darker than I was expecting, but it's also really great! The two main characters are at odds, but they're both trying to save themselves. I've been reading it slowly to savor its awesomeness. ;)
DeleteI was able to binge-watch the first five episodes of S3, and now it feels like I have to wait an eternity for the next one. I like the idea of waiting, but I really wanted to keep going after S2. The newest season has some darker aspects and a paranormal vibe! Yes! Archie's hair changes color. I Googled him and discovered his natural color is dark brown/black. I guess they have to die it often. Love Jughead and Betty! Did you know the actors were dating in real life? It's adorable!
Thank you! I'm excited to listen to the audiobook! <3
I really want to read The Greatest Love Story Ever Told. I'm glad you're enjoying it. I've only watched a bit of Riverdale, but that's hilarious about Archie's hair. I guess they are dying it differently...as I know he's not really a red head.

You should listen to the audiobook since they narrate it themselves! I love the back and forth banter and conversations. It's like they're sitting down and talking to each other, but also sharing their thoughts with us.
DeleteYou'd think they'd buy the same type of dye so it looked the same every time! :)
Phoenix Unbound was a five-star read for me, I hope you love! Enjoy HoHoHo readathon, I know you'll get back on track.
ReplyDeleteAmber Elise @ Du Livre
I think I remember seeing your review for it! It was a few weeks ago, right? Hopefully it'll be a five-star read for me as well.
DeleteThanks! Honestly, I'm not too worried about it. I'll read as many books as I can, but it's hard to squeeze in readathons when I have three crazy kids running around. They require a lot of attention, and I love giving it to them. Being a mom comes first, and I wouldn't have it any other way! However, if a book is really good, I'll stay up way too late to finish it. <3
I've seen the Bear and the Nightingale around a few times, but I've never picked it up. Hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteEveryone keeps raving about it, so I'm really looking forward to reading it! I'll let you know how it goes. ;)
DeleteThank you!! :)
DeleteI really enjoyed Phoenix Unbound, glad to see you did too!
ReplyDeleteI've only read the beginning! It's one I'm currently reading right now, but I am enjoying it so far. Glad to hear you liked it! :)
DeleteI'm also doing HoHoHoRAT and am sort of overdosing on holiday romances. If I do it again, I need to get some other genres. I loved Phoenix Unbound and The Bear and the Nightingale. Enjoy your reads. I'd like to just snuggle up and read or nap. Anne - Books of My Heart
ReplyDeleteI think I made the same mistake! I tried to vary my options, but it seems most holiday-themed books are romances. I just started the audio version of The Bear and the Nightingale, and I'm really looking forward to it! Everyone says it's great. <3
