Star Wars Age of Republic Padme Amidala #1 by Jody Houser, Cory Smith, Paolo Rivera
Jacob's comics for the week!
Amazing Spider-Man #16.HU by Nick Spencer, Iban Coello, Greg Land
Deadpool #10 by Skottie Young, Scott Hepburn
Jacob brought Star Wars Age of Republic Padme Amidala to my attention (that title is a mouthful!), and I've been on the fence about whether or not I want to read it. I'm getting the first issue because I've always liked Star Wars, and I'm curious how the story will look in a comic. I'm sure it'll be a different perspective, which is always interesting. Also, I love Padme! She's a fierce female that isn't afraid to fight for what she believes in. She's also competent, intelligent, and badass.
It's also written by Jody Houser, and I love her writing. She wrote Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows and Spider-Girls. Both are excellent! Renew Your Vows is easily an all-time favorite!

Fame Adjacent by Sarah Skilton
Expected publication: April 9th 2019

Synopsis (via Goodreads): The child star that was left behind is about to get her moment to shine in this swoony romantic comedy inspired by a unique, beloved facet of pop culture history: The Mickey Mouse Club.
Holly Danner has a complicated relationship with fame. It's not easy being the only cast member of a 1990s song-and-dance show who didn't become famous. When she was eleven, she used to do anything for a laugh (or at least a laugh-track) on "Diego and the Lion's Den." If she talked about it--which she almost never does--Holly might explain how her childhood best friends came to dominate the worlds of pop music, film, and TV while she was relegated to a few near-misses and a nanny gig for her niece. She'd even be telling the truth about making peace with the whole thing years ago.
But when she finds out there's a 25th anniversary for the show planned--a televised reunion, clip show, and panel--and she wasn't invited, it's time for an impromptu road trip to crash the event and set the record straight. Three problems: she's currently in Internet Rehab (perhaps she's not quite as well-adjusted as she believes...), she has no cash, and the only person who can get her across the country in time is Thom Parker, a handsome, infuriatingly level-headed patient who doesn't think she should confront her famous ex-friends.

If the book is anything like its blurb, I'm going to love this!
I read a Star Wars comic bundle last year and it was great. I hope you like Age of Republic. ๐✨
ReplyDeleteFame Adjacent sounds fun. ๐
Whoop! I love winning books and comics! <3 I'll definitely let you know how this one is. Thanks for stopping by and linking up! I also really like the purple graphic you used on your post. Did you reverse the color scheme? Awesome!
DeleteI hope Fame Adjacent is hilarious. It's been a while since I've read something really funny! :)
I love Star Wars but I haven't read any comics yet. I want to though!
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of Fame Adjacent before. But it looks good.

This will be my first Star Wars comic, so I'll let you know how it goes! I hope Flame Adjacent is funny! :)
DeleteI thought this book looked fun. I almost requested it, but I have way too many ARCs for that month.
ReplyDeleteSame! My March is slammed, so I'm just admiring it from afar right now. ;)
DeleteOoh Padme kicks a little butt. I'm not a fan of the prequels but I always love the scene where Anakin's like all talking and she's like freeing herself while he just gabs away lol.
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't cower and hide from her enemies, and she prefers to fight everyone. A lot of leaders dictate from a safe distance away, but not Padme! I definitely need to re-watch the series soon. That scene sounds familiar, and I'm drawing a blank! :(
DeleteI think it's in the second one, where they're tied up in an arena? Him and Obi-Wan are talking away and meanwhile she's like rescuing herself. Always cracks me up. :)
DeleteShe's very self-reliant, haha. :)
DeleteThe name is a mouthful, but can't wait to see what you think of it!
ReplyDeleteI hope it's amazing! <3
DeleteThis is a new one for me. I really love that cover! I hope that you love it when you get a chance to read it. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope it makes me laugh! :)
DeleteFame Adjacent sounds like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed! Sometimes the synopsis sounds fun, but the book has to deliver! :)
DeleteOoh Fame Adjacent sounds really good. I hadn't heard of it before. A lot of people really did become big from The Mickey Mouse Club, so it's an interesting premise; the one that didn't really blow up.

It's crazy to me that there are people now that don't know what The Mickey Mouse club is! It was such a staple during my childhood, and a lot of famous people today started on that show. Bananas! I'm really loving the idea for this book. <3
DeleteFame Adjacent sounds good. I would like it because it is a throw back to the nineteen nineties.
ReplyDeleteRight?! It sounds like fun! <3
DeleteAhhh Fame Adjacent sounds so good, I hadn't heard of it at all, before, thank you so much for putting it on my radar! :D
ReplyDeleteYay! I know we all love adding books to our TBR pile! ;)
DeleteI've always liked Star Wars but haven't read any of the comics for it.
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know how it goes! <3
DeleteJust list almost every one else said, I too havn't read any of the Star Wars graphic novels but probably should, lol! The last one I checked out was The Umbrella Academy after binging the series on Netflix. Characters were a bit different but I still liked it since I was on such a high from the show lol
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize The Umbrella Academy was based on a comic until recently. I have a friend that loves My Chemical Romance, and apparently one of the members wrote/writes that comic. She said she was going to watch the Netflix series just because it was something he started! My husband sent me a clip of the dance scene, and I laughed when the big guy was dancing and knocking a plane down from the ceiling. They look like interesting characters! Was the one guy dancing with an urn?? Other than the characters, was the comic pretty accurate?
DeleteFame Adjacent is new to me but I like the sound of it!
ReplyDeleteSame! I really hope it's a laugh-out-loud book! It's been ages since I've read one of those. I want my cheeks to hurt. :)
DeleteThis is the first time that I have seen Fame Adjacent but I think it sounds great. I hope you enjoy these!
ReplyDeleteI hope it's as great as it sounds! Thanks, Carole! <3
DeleteOh that looks good at it's the first I've noticed it too, I hope when you read it you like it!
ReplyDeleteApparently, Flame Adjacent is new to everyone! Haha! I'm happy I stumbled across it and was able to use it for this post. I love it when we can all introduce new books to each other. We're spreading the love! <3 <3
