News:
Nothing new to report here! We've been shopping for magic wands and making up spells to cast on one another school supplies and organizing them before we meet his teacher next week. The kid's excitement is contagious! He picked out his backpack and lunch box, and then we had to buy new clothes since there's a uniform. It's not terrible... polos, khakis, etc. He's totally okay with it, but he also has zero expectations. This is all new for him (and me)!
My ACOTAR books arrived! I ordered the entire series as soon as I finished reading the first book. They're lovely, perfect, and already have a special spot on my shelvesπright at eye level. I'm going to re-read the series as soon as I finish all of my August ARCs. I really loved the first book, and Tamlin, and now everything feels so different. I want to see how I react to certain things now that I've read the other books. I'm barely into ACOFAS because I'm taking my time with it. I want to drag out the experience so it lasts longer, which is an exercise in self-control. Also, Goodreads says there are supposed to be many more books... when is that supposed to be??
Previous week on the blog:
Sunday: The Sunday Post [24]
Monday: Nothing!
Tuesday: Nothing!
Wednesday: DNF&Y [19]
Friday: Shatter the Sky (Shatter the Sky, #1) by Rebecca Kim Wells ⋆⋆⋆
Saturday: State of the ARC [13]
What I'm currently reading:
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
A Court of Frost and Starlight (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3.1) by Sarah J. Maas
Circus Mirandus by Cassie Beasley
I am slowly working my way through Spinning Silver. This is the third time I've borrowed the audiobook from my library, and hopefully the last. It's a long book, and the pacing is a little slow, but I'm enjoying it overall.
A Court of Frost and Starlight was mentioned above, and how I'm purposefully taking my time with it. I never want this series to end! I love the characters and the world!! I also feel like there's a lot of story left to tell. Everything with Lucien and what he still doesn't know, Elain, Nesta, Amren, and Morrigan. They should each get their own series, I think. I also want Tamlin to find happiness, too.
Circus Mirandus is the newest book I'm reading with the monsters. We haven't actually started it yet, but we finished our other book last night, so we'll start this one today!
What I plan on reading next:
Nothing to Fear (Final Hour, #2) by Juno Rushdan
Rage (Stormheart, #2) by Cora Carmack
The Last Hope (The Raging Ones, #2) by Krista & Becca Ritchie
All of these are sequels that I've been really looking forward to reading! I hope they're amazing! Have you read any of these? If so, what did you think?
What I'm watching:
I'm still working my way through Brooklynn Nine-Nine and Veronica Mars. I'm waiting on more dubbed episodes of Attack on Titan, One Piece, and Fairy Tail to be released. It's taking forever. If you watch anime, is there another show you love and would recommend? There are a few others I watch, but I haven't tried anything new in awhile.

I've had Spinning Silver on my TBR for what seems like years now! I loved her previous story so much that I'm wary of being disappointed by this one!
ReplyDeleteSee...I haven't read the first book (even though I own it), and this is my first experience with the author. The book is good, but it's also very slow. I don't look forward to diving back into it, but I'm also totally fine with listening to it while I work around the house.
DeleteI really enjoyed Uprooted (haven't read Spinning SIlver yet), but I absolutely ADORED her Temeraire series! I think that sort is really her forte. Sorry this one is going slow for you!
DeleteI'll have to check out the other series you mentioned! Uprooted is one I hope to read before the end of the year. :)
DeleteIt's nice the little one is so excited about school. I don't know about you, but I loved when my daughter wore a uniform. Things were simpler.....and cheaper.
ReplyDeleteI do think things will be simpler! He has fewer choices which should speed up our mornings, haha. My kid loves his clothes. He's been dressing himself for years, while the girls still want me to pick things out.
DeleteI look forward to hearing your thoughts on Spinning Silver! The other week, I found a like new copy at Half Price and purchased it. Enjoy your ACOTAR books!
ReplyDeleteIf you enjoy more mainstream anime, you may also enjoy My Hero Academia (it's available on Hulu) and Hunter x Hunter. Dragon Ball Z is good if you enjoy action and characters that continue to grow more OP. If you want something similar to DBZ in terms of OP levels but with a bit more character development, I recommend Gurren Lagann.
For shows similar to Attack on Titan: Tokyo Ghoul and Ajin. Hunter x Hunter also has some horror elements (in particular with the Chimera Ants arc).
Some old-school anime: Inuyasha and JoJo's Bizaree Adventures
Spinning Silver is interesting, but the pacing it slow. I prefer books that get from A to B with a little oomph, haha. As for this one, I want to know what happens when the king and the demon finally meet. I'm sure the story will pick up then, and we're almost there! ;)
DeleteI LOVE MY ACOTAR BOOOKS! <3
I've heard of My Hero Academia and Gurren Lagann, so I'll likely try one of those soon! Thanks for the recs. I love Inuyasha and have seen it many times! Bleach, One Piece, Fairy Tail, and Yu Yu Hakusho are other favorites. I've seen most of Dragon Ball and DBZ. :) Oh! Cowboy Bebop is good, too.
My kid has a school uniform too. Shirts, ties, smart trousers... The full shebang from reception (4 yo) through to leaving for high school at 11/12. They take it in stride.
ReplyDeleteAs for ACOFAS... I wasn't a huge fan. I liked the catch up and the set up for the next part of the series but I have a feeling that a lot will be rehashed in book one of the future books. The future books are narrated by Nesta, I think. Maas has her work cut out for her making me warm to that one! But I'll definitely be reading them. I don't know when they're scheduled for though as Maas's next series seems to be something completely new?
Wow! His dress code isn't that strict. No ties! They can also wear cargo shorts/pants as long has they have six or fewer pockets. I'm sure the polo shirts will be comfortable!
DeleteACOFAS has been good so far, although the different perspectives have been an adjustment. I'm used to mostly Feyre with some Rhysand thrown in. I'm going to miss those two! Even if we get other books set in the same world, it won't be the same. We won't get to see their intimate moments, or see what they're saying down their bond.
I hope things are rehashed too much in future books! I'm hoping for three from Nesta's perspective, and three from Elain's. I want to know more about Lucien and his father, and how being mated to Elain is working out for them. I saw her newest book on Goodreads, but I think I'll read Throne of Glass first. :)
Awww your little man. He's so well-adjusted but independent!
ReplyDeleteI can't help feeling slightly amused every time you mention Maas' series. I can't remember you getting that excited for any other book/series since I met you! That's amazing! Not my thing of course because...eeeh...fantasy. But I love your enthusiasm!
My baby is a small person that thinks for himself, haha. I love him and know he's going to enjoy school. He'll be making so many decisions for himself, and be responsible for his actions. I won't be there with a warning or a look, so he'll have to adjust.
DeleteIt's been ages since I've fallen so completely in love with a series. A Court of Thorns and Roses was AMAZING and I want more! Always more! However, I do think she ended her series in a good place, and everything felt hopeful and right at the end. There was a lot left unsaid and open, but I'm sure those things will be addressed in future books. Yay for awesome writing! <3
Oh, the rest of the ACOTAR books were slightly delayed because Sarah had a baby, and so her entire publishing schedule got pushed back from what I've understood.
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know! I was curious. At the end of ACOFAS there's a sample of what's to come, but I couldn't find anything online about an additional series set in that world. Babies tend to throw plans out the window, haha. I can be patient and wait for whatever she chooses to right next. I can always re-read ACOTAR. ;)
DeleteMy grandson starts 1st grade soon and he's getting excited too.
ReplyDeleteTheir excitement is contagious! I went from being really, really said about him being gone every day, to looking forward to him getting to try something on his own. I know he's going to love it. :)
Deletemagic wands and spells lol. I can't believe it's almost school time again. I felt like June didn't really fly by, it went okay, but then July just FLEW. Man it's crazy that we're in August. Anyways... good luck with starting school!!
ReplyDeleteRage looks good, I reember taking a hard look at the first book.
We all bought wands at the store while we were getting school supplies. We may or may not have had a battle when we got home. I had to tell the kids that the wands weren't swords, and that we shouldn't use them for stabbing. Then everyone had spells, so we would freeze, sleep, or cry like baby kitten. ;)
DeleteJuly? I thought we skipped that one... School is going to be great! He's going to love it! I hope Rage answers all the questions I had at the end of Roar! She was just about to confront someone when it ended.
Sounds fun! "shouldn't use them for stabbing" haha. But they're so convenient that way! Kidding... :) We went to a place once where they had this magic wand game, you went around the resort and there were all these touch screens and your wand would let you accumulate treasure and fight stuff. Have you ever played any of those? It was fun if you ever get a chance. We did it at Great Wolf Lodge- I don't know if Texas has those but I'm sure there are waterparks like it down there!
DeleteI've been mulling over your comment since yesterday, because I read a book that had Great Wolf Lodge as a setting. A girl goes with a guy, but they're not together. They're going to remember a friend that died. The friend loved the wizard/wand game that took you all over the resort, and held one of the highest scores and original wands. However, I cannot remember what book!! It's driving me INSANE.
DeleteTHE LAST WISH OF SASHA CADE BY CHEYANNE YOUNG! Someone on Twitter saved the day, haha.
DeleteBrace yourself, what is that?! ;) I applaud your self control
ReplyDeleteMy self-control? For reading slowly? It doesn't always work! ;)
DeleteI can't wait for the day when I hear Back to School and I'm not filled with my own High School dread, haha. I'm happy your son is excited!
ReplyDeleteThe ACOTAR series is soo interesting. I was wondering how we could have six books too, but I think the other 3 will serve more as companion novels for the secondary characters in the series. So not strictly Rysa/Feyre ): ACOFAS is supposed to serve as the "tie in" books to introduce the next three books.
(Amber Elise @ Du Livre)
I'm sad that the other books won't be solely about Feyre (and Rhysand), but I like where their story ended after the third book. It was hopeful and very deserved. Now I want to see what happens to Nesta, Elain, Lucien, and even Tamlin.
DeleteI miss buying school supplies. It was always so much fun picking a new backpack and notebooks and pens (not that I don't have an obsession with stationary aka I still buy thousands of notebooks and pens π ).
ReplyDeleteHope your kid adjusts to school and his new teacher.
Happy readings!
TΓ’nia @MyLovelySecret
He only gets to choose his backpack and lunchbox! All the other supplies are given to the teacher, and she'll distribute them when school starts. All of their notebooks, pencils, paint, etc., have to be the same, so everyone gets something similar at the end. I love notepads and pens! I have so many, haha.
DeleteI love back to school shopping. Really, I love office supplies and school supplies. I think its why I became a teacher! Enjoy your books!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you were a teacher?! What grade do you teach? I taught second before I had kids! I loved it. <3
DeleteShopping for school supplies was always kind of fun. New lunch box, crayons, pencils. Love the smell of new pencils. I know, a bit odd.
ReplyDeleteI'm sooo looking forward to Veronica Mars! It's the sole reason I subscribed to Hulu again. Hope it's good. :)
That's not odd! I always loved the start of school. It meant fall was coming, new notebooks, and one less year until graduation. ;) Hah! I subscribed to Hulu for Veronica Mars and Brooklyn Nine-Nine! It's been great so far! I spoiled the ending for myself, and wow! You'll have to let me know what you think. :)
DeleteYou got Rage! I hope you enjoy it! And I need to continue the ACOTAR series! I loved Tamlin but when Rhys got introduced, I was a goner π
ReplyDeleteGenesis @ Whispering Chapters
I'm really looking forward to Rage! I'll be starting it soon, and I hope it picks up right where Roar left off. I have so many questions!! YES! You definitely need to finish the ACOTAR series. It's SO GOOD. <3 I have many feelings about Tamlin, but I agree that I loved him until the second book. ;)
DeleteAw, I'm glad your son is excited for school! I had a uniform growing up and it was great because I never had to worry about clothes (except for those random days we could wear casual clothes). Enjoy your books!

I like the idea of uniforms. He already has a drawer full of acceptable clothing, so he can still choose for himself, but it seems simpler. He's not overly picky as it is, but at least he has options. :)
DeleteUniforms are standard here, private schools get all fancy with jackets and ties and things but my kids go to public school so there is a unisex uniform of a school designed polo shirt, and black shorts/pants, though girls can opt to wear a uniform dress..few do these days though.
ReplyDeleteHave a great reading week
I feel like dresses would be hard for kids, since it's not as easy to run/play in them during recess, gym, or other activities. The uniforms here are simple... polos and khakis mostly.
DeleteI actually just checked the audiobook for Spinning Silver out of my library too. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on it once you've finished. I'm ready for more ACOTAR books too so hopefully the wait won't be too much longer for those.
ReplyDeleteSpinning Silver was super slow, but I really enjoyed the story. I would have preferred a quicker pace, and maybe fewer perspectives, but overall it was great. Let me know what you think!
DeleteYes!! I hope we get more ACOTAR soon!! <3
I am reading The Last Hope now and am really enjoying it! I love how these 2 sisters make this huge mystery out of our three linked cinnamon rolls! And I love the new guy. I won't say more but I hope you enjoy it Lindsi!! ❤️
ReplyDeleteI love our little cinnamon rolls!! Stork? He's the best! I hated how hurt and conflicted he was, because it was clear he cared. My review actually went up today. :)
