The Sunday Post [30]

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at the Caffeinated Reviewer! It's an opportunity to share news, post a recap for the previous week, showcase books, and highlight what's planned for the week ahead.

News:

I was really sick last week, but now it's just a lingering cough. It's obnoxious but manageable. Unfortunately, my son was sent home from school on Friday, because he had a fever (boo). He's been confined to my bedroom (since there's an adjoining bathroom), and is bored out of his mind. He wants to play with his sisters (aww), but I really don't want three sick kids. Luckily, his fever broke this morning, and I'm letting them watch a movie in the same room, but still limiting their interactions.

Soccer season has concluded -- hallelujah -- and now my son is getting ready for his piano recital next month. He wants to get back into Brazilian jiu-jitsu, but the closest classes are 45 minutes away, which doesn't work now that he's in school. He's done jiu-jitsu for three years now, and I know he misses it. Maybe they're will be something nearby when we move? Fingers crossed!

Yes, we're moving! Military life.

The girls are going to be three this month, and I cannot believe it! My babies! We've been getting things ready for a small party at a trampoline park.

What I'm currently reading:

Marauders #1 by Gerry Duggan, Russell Dauterman, Matteo Lolli

What I plan on reading next:

Coral by Sara Ella
House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig

What I'm watching:

The only thing I've watched recently is Let It Snow on Netflix, and I wasn't a fan. The movie felt pointless, and I wasn't sure what any of the characters had in common. Why did their stories overlap? I haven't read the book, so I don't know how it compares, but the movie felt like a waste of time.

  1. I'm glad you are feeling better. oh you're moving again! UGH. I am not done unpacking and hope to be settled for awhile now. Will it be a whole new city/state or just within the area? Good luck!

Have a great week with no one ill! Happy reading!

    1. We will be moving to another state! I don't mind unpacking, it's the actual moving that I dislike. It's so hard with children and pets. Right now my son and I are getting over being sick, and the girls are actively sick. Maybe by the end of the week? <3

    1. Thanks! He's back at school today, but now the girls are sick. Hopefully this is the end of it! Did you read a physical copy or listen to the audio? I have the audio from my library, and I'm hoping it's good! :)

  3. I didn't realize you were a military family- I hope the next move goes well. I'm glad you're doing better, and I hope your son is totally better soon! I haven't watched Let it Snow yet, but that's a bummer it felt pointless. I haven't read the book either.

    1. Yes! We move every 2-3 years. There are things that I like (new places to explore, new people to meet, finding a place for everything in a new house), and there are things I dislike (packing, uprooting the kids now that one of them is in school, finding a house without actually being able to see it in person). We've been lucky so far. My son is back at school today, and it was free dress (no uniform), so he's excited. :)

  4. Sorry everyone is under the weather. I just saw that your daughter is now running a fever. Hey, you tried. This time of year is tough. I am popping Zicam and huffing nose spray to try and fend off whatever all my co-workers have. I read Let It Snow years ago, and they were three different couples, who did not know each other, but are brought together by the storm, if I am remembering correctly. I don't watch much TV, but the casting looked good for the adaptation. So, if you hate Opposite of Always, I will cry. I adored that book so much. like 5+ stars adored it, and am eagerly awaiting the adaptation.

    1. And now both girls are sick and running a fever -- womp. I did try! Germs are tricky and resilient. I'm just hoping everyone is better by the end of the week, since next week is Thanksgiving break. Right now I'm sticking to vitamins and orange juice, haha.

Let it Snow: there wasn't a storm in the movie, just snow. They come together at the end for a party at Waffle House, but none of the couples really interact with each other. I was really exited about the casting, and thought Looking for Alaska was wonderful, but this one was just meh.

I am really loving Opposite of Always, and the audio is fantastic. He just drove to see Kate in the hospital, if you're wondering where I'm at. She hasn't specified what's wrong, but my eyes were already starting to water. They're making a movie or television show?? Nice!

  5. Ugh, sorry to hear your little guy has been sick again. Hopefully you'll both bounce back completely this week. And another move?! Where's the next duty station? Oh the joys of military life!

    1. We're bouncing back, but the girls are just starting... ugh. My babies. I hate it when they're sick. We've been watching a lot of movies, haha. The new Klaus on Netflix had me crying! Yes! Another move! We're going to Virginia. :)

  6. Glad you are feeling a bit better. Lingering cough does suck though! Wow another move? That is tough! HOpefully thought its closer to a jiu jitsu place!

    1. Thanks! The cough is manageable, the fever was not. There's no one to take care of me when I'm sick, haha. Yes! When my husband gets back, we will be moving again. Hopefully it's close to a jiu-jitsu place, so my son will feel better about moving. He started school this year, and he's made friends, so I think this will be the hardest move for him so far.

  7. I'm the glad the illness didn't spread to EVERYONE in the house and that you're on the mend! Opposite of Always was a very cute story!

    1. It was you! You jinxed us. ;) The girls got sick yesterday, so they're feeling pretty rotten today. My son and I are still coughing, but at least we're not feverish anymore. I'm really enjoyed Opposite of Always so far! <3

  8. Ugh - kids being sick really stink! I hope that he gets better soon! I'm currently addicted to the Preppy Murder documentary on AMC but that's the sort of weird True Crime thing that I like a lot.

    1. It does stink! I'm ready for everyone to feel better. My son is back at school today, but the girls are sick -- womp. I'm not a huge True Crime fan, but I did enjoy Sadie by Courtney Summers. Have you read that one?

  9. So what's the deal w/ the Marauders? Is this like a spin off group from the XMen? I'm so lost on what's happening lol!

    Hope you're feeling better! :)

    1. I actually have no idea! I'll let you know when I read it, haha. It just looked interesting. I was going to read it yesterday, but time got away from me. I'll try to get to it today.

I'm feeling mostly better, my son is claiming to be completely okay (lies), and the girls have recently started showing symptoms. Once one person gets sick, everyone gets it.

  10. Awww, I hope your son feels better soon so he can get out of the bedroom. A trampoline park sounds fun. Are adults allowed to bounce in the trampoline park? I would want to . . . . Have a great week!

    1. He wasn't totally alone, haha. We read books, played board games, and I gave him the iPad (something I rarely do), so he could play games and watch shows. He just wanted to PLAY, which he couldn't do. He's feeling better today and back at school, but he passed it on to his sisters.

Yes! Adults can jump at the trampoline park. We do it all the time, haha. They even have a ninja course for older kids/adults that's pretty awesome. There's dodgeball, basketball, and just regular jumping. Oh! And an inflatable pit you can bounce yourself into. :)

  12. I always dread one of the kids getting sick because no matter what I do we all fall like dominoes.

Wishing you a great reading week, stay well!

    1. Yep! That's exactly what happened. My son was sick, then I got sick, then my son got sick again, and now both of the girls are sick. Fingers crossed everyone is feeling better by the end of the week, but sending him to school is always a gamble. Kids are germy! ;)

  13. Sounds like we had the same bug. I'm still coughing, but I feel good otherwise. My grandkids are all well now. They gave it to me last time I was visiting, and it's the gift that keeps giving/going, lol. You're moving? Ack! That's tough with little kids. I hope it goes smoothly, Lindsi! :)

    1. It's the gift that should never be re-gifted, haha. I had a fever for 1-2 days, and then a hacking cough that drove me insane. The kids have a the fever, but not the cough. I have no idea if it's the same thing or not, or something my son brought from school. Yes! Moving again, and dreading the trek with kiddos. They make everything more challenging. ;) <3

  14. Oh man, good luck with the move! I don't miss how hectic military life is, but I know some people thrive in it! I hope everyone feels better soon. Enjoy your new reads! House of Salt and Sorrows is incredible!

    1. It doesn't feel hectic until we have to move somewhere, haha. I don't know if we thrive, but we enjoy living in different places and experiencing new things. :) Everyone is still super sick, so we're taking it one day at a time! House of Salt and Sorrows is supposed to be a spooky read -- we'll see.

  15. Ouch. Another round of illnesses! I suppose it can't be avoided, with 3 kids in the house. It's just fortunate you don't have soccer anymore. Get well soon!

    Your son is amazingly versatile!

I could never cope with moving out so often. Your son must be especially devastated, though he sounds like a great kid who can take this and much more. Let's hope he can jiu-jitsu to his heart's content at least!

    1. I'm hoping we can all get better now that the monster has a week off from school -- fewer germs to contend with. ;) He's very versatile! I support his decision to try new things, because I want him to discover what he loves and be able to pursue it.
