The Lost Wonderland Diaries by J. Scott Savage
Expected publication: September 8th 2020
Lewis Carroll created a curious and fantastical world in his classic book Alice in Wonderland, but he secretly recorded the true story of his actual travels to Wonderland in four journals which have been lost to the world…until now.
Celia and Tyrus discover the legendary Lost Diaries of Wonderland and fall into a portal that pulls them into the same fantasy world as the White Rabbit and the Mad Hatter. However, Wonderland has vastly changed. A darkness has settled over the land, and some creatures and characters that Tyrus remembers from the book have been transformed into angry monsters.
Celia and Tyrus make their way through this unpredictable and dangerous land, helped by familiar friends including the Cheshire Cat and a new character, Sylvan, a young rabbit. Together, they desperately work to solve puzzles and riddles, looking for a way out of Wonderland. But the danger increases when the Queen of Hearts begins hunting them. Believing the two young visitors hold the key to opening multiple portals to multiple worlds, she will stop at nothing to capture them.
It's up to Celia and Tyrus to save Wonderland and the real world. It’s a race against time before they are trapped in Wonderland forever.

There's just something about Alice in Wonderland that I cant' resist. ๐
I have never read the original Alice in Wonderland stories. My daughter feels a special affinity with Alice, and so I've grown more interested in her character over the years. I do love the sound of The Lost in Wonderland Diaries. It sounds like a fun read. I bet I could talk my daughter into reading it with me. But if not, that's okay too! I'd probably still read it. I hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to read it.
ReplyDeleteI've always enjoyed how fluid the story is. Wonderland is a magical, fantastical place, so there are no defined lines the story has to remain inside. Flowers can talk and be snarky, a caterpillar can blow smoke rings, and a white rabbit is obsessed with the time. Through the Looking glass is a darker spin on Alice in Wonderland that I've read, and am now re-reading with my son! It's definitely MG, so I wouldn't recommend it for younger kids, haha.
DeleteHope you enjoy this! ...okay, so you know I could not resist saying that, given our Twitter convo a couple days ago, lol. But for real, I love this premise and I will be interested in checking it out - when it is released in a few months ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha! I don't mind when people say that, it's just always sounded strange to me. Most of my CWW choices are books I won't get to for awhile, unless they're part of a series I've already started. :)
DeleteAgreed, that's why I could not resist!
DeleteYup I'd read this. did you ever read shannon Hale's Ever After High books?
ReplyDeleteNo! I don't think I've read anything by Shannon Hale, although I've heard of her.
DeleteOh they're fun! And whimsical too. But if you know the dolls you can probably imagine.
DeleteLINDSSSSSSS! How have you been my darling? Took a bit of a break so trying to get back into blogging again and wanted to stop by to see what you've been up to! This sounds like a lovely little read, I'm a massive fan of Alice in Wonderland and been looking for more light and delightful reads. Looking forward to September for this one to be released as well.
ReplyDeleteI think we've all been taking breaks here and there! It's hard to find a new normal when we still don't know what tomorrow will look like. My son's doing online learning, and we've been in charge of massive packets of homework, so that's where a lot of my time has gone. I'm just happy I have a background in teaching, so this doesn't feel as overwhelming. My issue is keeping the girls from running around naked in the background of video sessions. ;)
DeleteThis sounds really cool! I'm going to have to add it to my tbr.
ReplyDeleteI'm always happy to help feed people's TBR Monsters. :)
DeleteThis sounds really cool!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to find new ways to spin an old story, but this one looks promising!
DeleteThis sounds really cute! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteCrystal Book Snob
I forget how I stumbled across your blog, but I think I saw your name when I was commenting on someone else's post. It's the best way to find new people to follow! :)
DeleteI love Alice retellings and this looks adorable!
ReplyDeleteI hope it's as good as it sounds! :)
DeleteTHis is super cute as I love Alice and Wonderland :) I'd love to give this a try real soon.
ReplyDeletejillian @ jillian etc
It's been ages sine I've read anything (new) with an Alice in Wonderland theme. I'm currently re-reading The Looking Glass Wars with my son now that he's older. :)
DeleteOh that's a really cute cover!
ReplyDeleteRight?? I want to know what that claw belongs to!
DeleteI've met J. Scott Savage before and heard him speak several times, but I've only read one of this books and it was a looonnngg time ago. This one sounds fun. I hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! I love listening to author's speak, even if I haven't read their books. It's fun to hear about their inspirations, and how they created their stories. :)
DeleteIt could be good, in audio :D
ReplyDeleteI'm always down for a good audio! Hey, you should totally try Serpent & Dove! AMAZING audio, and the story was GOOD.
DeleteLost journals and new adventures in Wonderland do sound great.
ReplyDeleteI think it sounds like an interesting take on the original story, so hopefully I'm not disappointed! If the story is anything like the cover, I'm sure it'll be fantastic. ;)
DeleteOh, this sounds really good! I don't think that I have actually read any Alice in Wonderland retellings but I wouldn't mind giving this one a try.
ReplyDeleteI typically avoid retellings (not always a great fit for me), but it's hard to resist Alice in Wonderland. :)
DeleteJust love this cover! I hope that you enjoy this.
ReplyDeleteSeptember is still a ways away, so hopefully I don't forget about it before then! ;)
DeleteThat sounds like it would be a good read.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like it would be a fun book to read with my kiddos.
DeleteThat cover alone! I love the sound of this
ReplyDeleteMy kids haven't shown an interest in Alice in Wonderland (not like I did growing up), but maybe that's because they haven't heard the right story! ;) My son did enjoy The Looking Glass Wars, but it was darker than I remembered, and we haven't continued the series.
DeleteWe will definitely pick the series back up in the future! I just think he needs to be a little bit older. Too much violence for a six-year-old. :)
DeleteI love the cover but I'm not sure I'd want to read the book. I love the imagery that comes with Alice in Wonderland but I think I'm burning out on re-imaginings.
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling! I typically avoid them, but it's hard for me to pass on an Alice in Wonderland story. ;) My weak spot, haha! I did see something about a Hunchback of Notre Dame retelling (or something similar), but can't remember what the title it was. That piques my interest as well, since it's not a story I've seen retold before.
DeleteHmm.. Sounds like a fun read. I've never read Alice in Wonderland to be honest. I do own the book.. twice.. LOL!!
ReplyDeleteYou have two copies of a book you've never read? You sound like me! I have several copies of childhood books (some special editions) of books I've never read. I want to read them, and plan on reading them in the future, but they have sat unread for awhile. ;)
DeleteI totally get your feeling about the Alice in Wonderland thing. Heartless was amazing!
ReplyDeleteThe movies are great, especially love Johnny Depp.
The cover for this book looks amazing and I think I've seen it somewhere and was curious then as well...
YES! I think Heartless is my favorite one so far! Meyer really made me care for the Queen of Hearts and sympathize with her story. My heart BROKE at the end of that book, and I don't think I'll ever forgive the author for what she did. *sobs* Johnny Depp is an excellent Mad Hatter. :)
DeleteI couldn't agree more... But on the other end, we all know how the Queen of Hearts turned out in the end...
DeleteI loved the final sentence in that book though!
I know, I know... she's the Queen of Hearts! However, I really loved and enjoyed this origin story, and totally forgot about the last line! I had to look it up, haha. Thanks for the reminder. ;)
DeleteI love Alice in Wonderland so this book really appeals to me as well. Great pick this week!
ReplyDeleteI love that there are no rules to the world Alice always finds herself in. It's magical, but in a very unique way! The kids recently watched the old animated movie, and I'd forgotten about the walrus and his story. It's dark!
DeleteI love Alice in Wonderland! I be looking out for your thoughts on this one. ๐✨
ReplyDeleteIf I remember to pick it up when it's released! Haha! ;)
